Re: Forgotten V8

Wasn't there also a Ford Anglia V8 there too?

Re: Forgotten V8
Car Mag did a road test on a green Beetle V8 - not sure if it was the same as the racing one. Yes Gunter, it didn't last long and the handling was something else!
Re: Forgotten V8
As Fairlane suggested, I'm sure there was an Anglia V8 somewhere. Does anyone know about this?

Re: Forgotten V8
Can't remember a racing Anglia V8 but I do recollect Car doing a test on one. Those were the days when Car was very into performance and racing issues. Today everything is so hi-tech (obviously) and performance means a Lambo or Bugatti rather than a hotted up road car.
Ahh well, time moves on I suppose....

Ja, I recall a maroon Anglia V8 with a black roof somewhere along the line, but not a racing car. I'm sure you're right it was a road test.
Re: Forgotten V8
Killarney V8 Beetle was built and driven by David Gibbons.
The car was red and used a Rover V8.
It did not race many times.
David later had a Audi 100 roadcar with a Rover V8 up front.

Re: Forgotten V8
My cousin had a Chevy powered Lark - it was his patrol car in the Pretoria Traffic Police.
He thought it was great until he got blown off by a Renault R8 Gordini - that's how they settled traffic violations in those days....

Lol at John
I can imagine a black and white Lark with it's old fashioned siren wailing........
But yes, the Bernie Mariner Lark was quite a beast in the sixties. I think the last time it raced would have been in the 1965 season when Uncle Bob pitched up in his Galaxie to clean up the fields.
I read somewhere that the Lark had been discovered in a sorry state and is being restored to its former condition and should be gracing our tracks sometime in the future. Looking forward to that day!
