Thanks Hubcap,

We have that one - that's where the first cropped picture I posted came from. Interesting if you look at the PDF you see that that just like Hi Fi's second picture the Mazda is being passed by a Gunston Chevron.

That is what I am hoping for - people who have taken photos like that of a Chevron or a March with the Mazda in the 'background'.

Sadly no - I so wish I did, especialy for the times that I spent with Jack Holme. Nothing like some of the guys here.

In my youth I had no camera, and both going to motor racing and 'wasting' film was kind of frowned upon at home. So my time at track was just about non-existant. I lived almost all of my racing through magazines and books and lurking in Jack's garage. But even my CAR magazine collection went away at some stage in moving house.

Today I am very slowly building up a CAR magazine collection - but even that is in ZA and I am here in the UK.

I think I have a few shots of the Durban Sports Car street race that formed part of the Piper series one year, but I have no idea where they are - somewhere in the loft - I will try to find them, but that's about it.

Explains why I trying to relive it all on these forums.

Gunter is correct. Jannie has most of the parts now and when we last spoke I think he said the bodywork was under way.

I met Jannie Van Aswegan for the first time 2 weeks ago. Derek knightingale (instrument man) brought Jannie around to my house to pick up some polyeurethane control arm bushes for the Mazda, fortunately I had some that he could use.

Jannie showed me a file on the cars history, great to see all its history, There are pics of what the car looks like know and a lot of work has been done to the shell, will be an awsome car when its finished, the rotary was pushing 300bhp N/A in its day so when the car is complete and back on the track it shoul be a real sight to see.

Jannie is a walking encyclopedia of motoring knowledge thats for sure, I hope to go and see some of his other historic race cars soon.

Hi there Gavin. Yes,absolutely so-Jannie is a remarkable man and his collection of cars are even more remarkable.Eg.genuine Factory RS Rally Escort, genuine imported Lotus 7, genuine Mk1 Lotus Cortina etc. Some overseas even! Saw that little powderblue Dart running at Brands Hatch? He is co-owner of that car. I popped 'round to his home some weeks ago and let me tell you,one day is not long enough once 2 serious petrolheads get going. He now has all the Mazda pics from my scrapbook pertaining to his resto racing Mazda and the autographs of the 2racers of that car, Takechi & Katayama, as well.

Oh yes, I believe you are getting married on Sat. ? 8O May you be truly happy & all the best for the years to come!
