Another couple of degrees of body roll and you could twin that with my MG GTB V8

Thats for sure, not as bad as a std Rover though, have some more mods to do on suspension which will improve the roll, be done before next race :D

Hi Gavin.Any further race updates on your rover.I've just done my first fine car race meeting down in Cape Town and so far your thread has been very interesting. It's good to talk to other racers running new cars because we are probably going through the same teething problems.
Cheers

Hi Colin.

As per my last post regarding fuel surge issues in the race I have had no updates. next race is 27th July. In the meantime I have ordered hi flow needle and seats for the Edelbrock/Weber 4 bbl carb, this was recommended by the guys in the UK for track and off road use. They have arrived so i will pick them up today from US Connections.
So now I can start prepping for the next track day so i can test the car before the next event. I will play with the float levels however i thing the extra fuel pump i fitted after the surge tank might not be delivering enough volume, I am probably going to fit a Facet red top fuel pump which should sort that out. I still need to fit my semi slicks. working out the issues and the lap times I was doing I should be able to better my times at Zwartkops bu at least 6 sec a lap as I will now be able to keep the power in the corners compared to the spluttering i had in corners last race :D

I have also sourced the diff i was looking for so hope to have that sorted and fitted by next race.(not crittical at the moment If i dont fit it)

So how is your car going

Hi Gavin

We had a race meeting on saturday and the fresh engine gave us a seven second improvement compared to the first outing.Still having brake issues though and it lunched the gearbox in the second heat. Our next meeting is 10 august and times should drop even more by then.Is your car ready for your race at the end of this month?
Keep us posted.

Here are some pics

Cheers

Hi Colin

Man the Sierra looks good in the photos, awesome :D

I had to work unfortunately but have entered for Kyalami on the 17th, hope to complete my other diff this weekend and install before the next event.

Have fitted the semi slicks so hopefully that will sort out the handling a lot better.

Cheers

Well Kyalami last Saturday turned out to be a great day. Practice on Friday proved my fuel surge issues were cured,I fitted new Edelbrock hi-flow needle and seats (which George at US Connections got for me) and set float levels to the max

Qualifying on Saturday at 7am on a cold track was fun, managed to qualify 4th. out of 17 cars but with the way Marque cars work I started 13th on the grid . the cars fuel surge problems sorted and was going well.

1st Race was awesome 17 cars and some good overtaking. I had a great few laps chasing down a Porsche 911 and a 928 and then getting past a Nissan 300ZX turbo , they are quicker on the straights but I picked the 911 off through Sunset, the 928 I took on the inside through the Esses going up the hill and the 300 ZX I managed to get him at Nashua (turn 4) and managed to hold off up to Sunset then I pulled away, Stuart Grant managed to nip past me in the Merc otherwise I would have been First but that Merc does go well and has an edge over my car Colin Keans Merc is seriously fast, about 5 seconds a lap quicker than me but I managed to beat him to the finish and he ended up 3rd So I Got a 2nd overall.well chuffed with that as in the beginning of the year I told the guys I am coming to get the Mercs and they all laughed.

2nd race was at 13h35 and was quite hot , started 10th on the grid and also had some great dices with a few MG’s as well as the 2 Porsches and the 300ZX, This time I was just pipped by Manegolds Alfa and ended up 3rd. But the overall results for the day I ended up 2nd. Just hope the TV guys got some of the close racing recorded, should air in about 2 weeks

Unfortunately I have a gearbox oil leak and an engine oil leak after the 2nd race.I will sort that out before October. Main thing is to get rid of a lot more body roll and I need to drop the rear another inch or so. I have a few improvements to make now that I have managed a proper race so the car will definitely have improved handling by the next race.
I will finish my other motor as I do need more power and carry out some more improvements to the suspension, need more front camber etc but over all the car surprised everyone and shows plenty potential and a lot of people came up to me to say how good the little V8 sounds :D

Well done Gavin. Glad it's coming together and that you had a good day. You're right, those Mercs are quick and Stu Grant pedals well. so kudos to you for the second place
