Everyone just focussed on the V8's especially when it came to the Chev's. I have always maintained that the smaller cars stood the test of time holding up field numbers and some incredible dices they had which was just beyond the camera's in a way.

Here is some more photos of the front strut cage. Originally it was welded in but the new owner decided to make it bolton. There is also more reinforcement to the chasis legs. When i found this car it was exactly the same but with a 2.5 wih sidedraught, branch and a wild cam

There's no two ways about it. I had a 2.5 saloon when I was working for I & J and this thing went like the clappers. I was very surprised when I first drove the thing. I thought that I had underrated the car totally. There are so many it would be nice to have but so little time, so little money!

Tht 2.5 tractor engine had bags of torque - and could reall shift with not too much modification.

I beleive in them my brother's GT has clocked twice is 34 years old and the motor never opened till today and still runs fine.

Mine has less mileage but also such age never opened and purr's.

Brother's Nomad 32 years old done service in the Army been from the West side to the East coasts of ZA motor never opened still runs like the other two.

It can't be a fluke !

There was nothing wrong with those motors. I reckon they put them into the old Ford Thames Traders :D

This is something I have always wondered, if it would be possible to successfuly modify the 2.5 liter motor, sure it packed a lot of power but wasnt really a revver, would assume that a modified cam would sort this out?

Realistically what can one do to this motor, am merely curious for some strange reason I have a liking of Nomads...
Alfa GTV 3.0
Ford Capri Perana V8
Chevy Lumina Supercharged

Wait not for tomorrow to do what can be done today, live each day for one knows not what the next day may hold.

See Hano's post http://www.africanmusclecars.com/forum/ ... 634&hilit=

The 2.5 family is not a million miles from being half a chevy V8.

And like lots of V8s it left the factory in an incredibly lazy state of tune.

The 1973 modified production saloon championship was won by a 2.5 Firenza!

Yes the Firenza won the Star Modified championship in 1973, but was it fair to allow a 2.5 litre engined Firenza to race in the same class as the 1600 Escorts?

I rest my case
