I was standing no more than 5mt away from Serge's famous yump. He was rather over ambitious at that stage of his career, probably wanted to make a name for himself, and boy he sure did on that day.....................

Re: Ford RST - Sold to European
Very nice car, pity it's now gone. Mick Jones at some stage meddled with a carbed turbo BD engine for these. One of the engines is still in PE on a workshop shelf, seen it wif me own eyes guv'
Also heard of the RST shell here in PE, a mate looked at that in the 90's, not sure if it found a home or not? The 25K was indeed some outlay then.

I had a good look at that car in Mike Budds workshop.Wish I had the bucks for something like that.
The Blue RST was given to Malcom Wilson in SA and he does still own the car.
Regarding the BDA motors, Clive Wilmot has a couple for sale in full race spec.

it'as an escort mk3 1700T, the ancestor of the escort cosworth develloped by ford and ari vatanen but delesed.
There where 23 cars built in total most scrapped and the engines re-engineered for the RS200 Group B car and 5 made it back to the UK.
Cumbrian driver Simon Nutter had the one above and sold it for around 60k to a guy in Germany.
Malcolms car is beleived to be the ex Brian Bell car which Brian was going to use as a rally car but it was in such good condition that it was left as a road car.
Gordon Spooner Engineering restored a couple and one went to the USA[/quote]

Re: Ford RST - Sold to European
If you check up on the history of when the plug was pulled on these cars you will see that UK Ford was supposed to have crushed all the remaining cars. All of them are accounted for by VIN number in the records. The car that Mike Budd built up from a shell did not have a VIN number or any chassis plates, it somehow escaped being crushed.
I have pictures of the rolling shell with dummy engine when I visited his workshop some years ago.
Pity it is now off to the UK
