Sierra XR8 value

Post by Bird 455 » Wed 27 Aug 2014, 20:22

Hi guys...

I was offered a Sierra XR8 by a friend of mine. He asks R65k. The car is in a fair condition & needs tlc. I have restored 2 here in Cape Town so I'm familiar with the blue shading on the vinyls & re-striping the colours & decals to get it looking original. I have seen them sell from R75k and as high as R95k.

Will these cars ever grow in value to what the Capri Perana has?

I would like to spend this money on completing my GT40 but if this car is a GOOD investment then I might as well take a punt....

I thank you!

Don't know if it will rise to Capri levels, but it will rise.

65k is a good buy, not much limited production V8's around at that price.

Fair enough Warren

I doubt I would want to sit with it for 15 years for the value to increase. That is the mystery with XR8's.... Very difficult to determine their value.

Does ally aftermarket heads increase or decrease the value? Intakes & similar upgrades make it all the more difficult. Certain things like the radiator are specific but I've seen them run much better with modern import ones...

Help me guys!

Thanks

Bird if you want to buy the car just to resell, rather let it pass to someone that will appreciate the car for the rare beast it is and not concerned about what it's worth.

Enjoy the GT40 mate! :D

2 cars in SA have already reached over R200k,and sold.

average price for a nice good one in my opinion is R120k to R150k
1984 Rover Vanden Plas V8 (Historic Race car)
1986 Rover 3500 Vitesse (UK Import Ex London Police Car)
1983 Rover Vanden Plas undergoing conversion to race car.
