Sheet Metal Course July '13

Post by Garage » Wed 17 Jul 2013, 05:36

We ran another successful course this past weekend. Great group of guys came at it with enthusiasm and energy.
The courses teach basic concepts and techniques using hand tools. While this makes it difficult to complete any large panels in the time available, students leave with the knowledge to be able to create any panel from flat sheet.
By sticking to hand tools (though we do look at some of the machines that save time) the guys are able to immediately go home and carry on practicing.
The key in sheet metal shaping is understanding how to make the metal move - only then can you get the best benefit from machines like the wheeling machine, bead rollers, shrinkers etc etc.
Here are some pics of the fun:

This is something I would so love to learn. It must be such a satisfying feeling to know that you have built some of the difficult parts on your vehicle with your own hands !!

That, and building Log Homes :D Just unfortunate that all the people teaching those things are in the South.

Barry, I assume it would be impossible for you to come give some lessons over here in Transvaal ?

Thanks Rassie and Pieter

I have been asked to do courses in Gauteng - it could be an option but there are quite a few logistical issues....
If there is enough demand, and a suitable space, I may look at doing this sometime early next year.
