I had a buddy who owned a 80's model Kadett 1.3. Went through about 3 camshafts over a a few years. He never drove fast, but there was a rumor that it was a fairly common on some of those engines at the time. Something to do with the oil supply to the cam?

Next time you need parts, give me a call, I have the Goldwagen store in Vereeniging, and we stock most parts on that car. ;)

Busy cleaning up! :D Head has been machined and the exhaust valves will be replaced due too-much play in the valve stems :) Inlet valves still OK! Delivery tomorrow afternoon! :D
Have cleaned up the inlet manifold and it will be fitted to the head before fitting to the block!
Found blocked breather pipe at the back of the manifold! 8O
Easier to fit the manifold bolts and just drop the assembly in!!

Hullo All,
The job is becoming more than just a cam replacement! 8O The cambelt housing was in dire need of repair
Amazing what pop rivets can do. They are cheaper to buy and fit that a new cambelt housing
Also used poly resin to seat the bolts! 8O

Johann, just check that those bolts are not torque to yield.

If they are, you would need new bolts.

For torque to yield, I have it that the settings are 25Nm initial, then 60degrees + 60 degrees + 60 degrees

Facing the engine, I normally started with the front center bolt, then the corresponding rear bolt, then the rear bolt to its right (left side of the car), then the corresponding front bolt, then the front bolt left of the center bolt (right side of the car) then the corresponding rear bolt, then the last bolt on the right rear (left side of the car) then the corresponding front bolt, then the last bolt on the front left (right side of the car) then the corresponding rear bolt.

Repeat until the sequence is complete.

Hullo Johann,
Thanks for the advice! :D The sequence is as I have done it  Your settings are as I found on the Opel site. Good to have confirmation! :D I have done the 25nm and the first 60 deg. Will do stages 3 and 4 tomorrow when it is a bit warmer  Vrek Koud Hierso! 8O Nie so moeilik nie net huiswerk doen!!
