Chev Elcamino wanted

Post by marlor » Thu 30 Jul 2009, 20:46

Hi, I'm a newbie to the site (situated in Cape Town) and looking to buy a Chev Elcamino bakkie as a project.
I have been looking around and got some advice from guys saying I should rather give the original 308 V8 with the Tri-Matic box a miss and rather try to get one with a 350 Chev motor and 350 or 400 Turbo box.
I am wanting a weekend ride mainly but also want to be able to do a bit of drags with it for fun. Nothing serious or hectic - needs to be reliable aswell.
I want the 'normal' ones - not the earlier Holden ones with the double lights or the later model ones (eg '77 with the changed front)

Do not want rust buckets that will require a huge amount of work, time and money.

Any help or advice will be highly appreciated.
If you know someone selling, please let me know
Thanks

Well , it's not the 454 that is THAT expensive - tho it is if you do it right , it's bulletproofing the bits that the power and torque of the big block break that is :)

One of my friends here has a camaro with a 454 and the big block breaks something, then he strengthens that part and wait for the next to break and then upgrades that. I want to build a 454 into a camaro/firebird/gto/chevelle someday.

Hi there

I got my 72 El Camino a few months ago. its a straight 6, trimatic. I'm not looking for speed just looks.

Parts seem difficult to get though, only snag.

Good luck

That six is strong enough just add some performance parts like a branch etc and watch it go!
