Agreed. You might need to spend well over R300k to restore it...

Re: 1971 Mach 1 Ford Mustang
Thanks for all the feedback and advice.
jlebenon, looking forward to here what you could find out from Willem over the coming weekend.
The only advantage of the project car is that I will have some control over the rebuild process. Again, it all depends on the state of the car to begin with.
Spending about R300k on the vehicle was about what I estimated. So all in I worked towards R400-450k. That is more or less the same as the blue mustang for sale in cape town of around R400k + R50k to change things.
I think it might be just more satisfying (definitely more frustrating) to do the project car.
Lets see what info we can still put together on this vehicle.

The best advice I can give is make sure, if you aren't doing the work yourself that whoever you trust the car with does a good job and has plenty of references.JR7800 wrote: ↑Tue 16 Jan 2018, 21:41Thanks for all the feedback and advice.

From my perspective I would also want to manage costs very closely...more so if a third party is doing the restoration work.

For interest sake: the vehicle (project) is a SA vehicle. It was registered in SA on 72/01/01.

I highly doubt that myself but maybe that's because I know too many criminals ....

Re: 1971 Mach 1 Ford Mustang
jlebenon, thanks for info as usual.
I also have it as a 20 Nov 1970 vehicle which ties in nicely with the Vin number being a Number: 1F05M1737999
Year: 1 1971
Plant: F Dearborn, MI
Body Series: 05 SportsRoof, Mach 1
Engine: M 351 4v V8
Unit: 173799 173799
As I have mentioned the engine according to the seller is a Cobra Jet motor - 4V.
My confusion is that a lot people (now I know the internet can be misleading) states that for it to be a Cobra Jet motor 351-4v CJ the engine number should be D2AE-CA and not the D0AE-L as indicated in the picture of the engine.
So I am trying to ensure that this is an actual Cobra Jet motor - 351- 4V CJ.
Any thoughts?
