Could we ask that admin please split this thread, it has again become a Mustang value debate, and not part of the OP/Neels's For Sale thread. Thank you.

If the average disposable income (after tax) in the USA is: R37 793 ($2719).
And the same average in South Africa is: R16 157.

Is it wrong then to argue that the above car's price will take up 772% ($21 000/$2719) of the USA person's salary, while a South African will have to put up 2 600% (R420 000/R16157) of his income to buy the same car at the price a South African seller is asking.

Your calculation might be correct, it is precisely why cars are more affordable in the USA, and that is not an argument, it is just a fact.

I'm really enjoying the discussion and agree with most of it.

You would have noticed that I started the thread by saying that the Mustang is "in the market". If it was for urgent sale I would probably have pitched it around 50k less and then negotiable. At present I am still having mixed feelings about whether to sell or keep and R400k or thereabouts reflects the current value to me that would make it worthwhile to sell. She wasn't built for the "For Sale" market but rather as a fun project for myself and so little extra things have been done - for example: the glove box has 3 bolts (way over designed!) and the middle one had been broken off many many moons ago. It has been more than strong enough with just the two bolts but I wanted her back to original so after one whole Saturday and 3 drill bits later the middle bolt has now been replaced. You can't see it unless you climb under the dash and it makes absolutely no difference to the strength of the box but it gives me a deep and persistent pleasure knowing it is there! And so with many other parts as well...

As for coming to a value: The base car cost me R140 000; there are around R150 000 worth of replaced parts in the car (When the exchange rate was R9.00 to the dollar - current exchange would make that around R220 000) And then there are the countless hours spent in, under, on top of the car. You will battle to do this project for much less than R350k.

The nice thing about the discussions on this thread has been the fact that it seems as if my valuations have been within a reasonable ballpark. It is one of the valuable spin offs of being on the Forum - you get some good unbiased opinions!!

I think thats a fair price for both parties to be honest. Probably could have got a bit more if you had waited it out, but often your 1st offer is your best offer is something I have learnt when selling.
