Re: Car Import costs - are our local cars for sale overprice
As to who implements the rules you can take your pick - every agency in the loop wants to check the entire chain of what happened before - so customs want to see the permit and LOA - then NRCS want to see the Customs DOCS as well as the previous stuff, then traffic want the customs stuff as well as ...

Re: Car Import costs - are our local cars for sale overprice
To clarify the issues with RHD and the NRCS. To REGISTER a recently imported classic car here in SA you need an ITAC permit , a Letter of Authority (LOA) from the NRCS and the vehicle has to be in right hand drive (unless it's pre 1965 where exceptions can be made). Cars that were on the NATIS syste...

Re: Car Import costs - are our local cars for sale overprice
Len, you don't want to know - I could fill a book with the stories - the latest from Traffic is that the original USA Certificate of Title is "not the logbook" and is therefore not proof of previous foreign registration .....eishh .... now try to argue that with somebody who can barely speak English...

Re: 69 Mustang Mach 1
The steady march of Mustang prices makes our bare metal ground up restored white one in RHD with a fully updated interior look a great deal - and the buyers thought so - car went in a week and left behind at least 4 other disappointed buyers.

Re: 67 Mustang GTA 390 Fastback Restoration project begins
Because your build is a restoration not a restomod I think you have to go with the original Magnum wheels or modern exact replicas - any other wheel would devalue in my view what you are trying to achieve - the car should look like it just drove out of the factory in 67. My 5 c worth.

Re: Car Import costs - are our local cars for sale overprice
I know from experience that the shipping costs in the figures bandied about are a bit light - with the current exchange rate we work on R100k shipping cost per vehicle because most cars are miles away from the port and the inland travel costs are very steep - we've paid up to R70 000 on inland trans...

Re: SA Classic car market
There is no mystery here. for example E type prices have gone ballistic overseas in the last few years as supply and demand interact and more people want to own less available cars. The Ferrari Daytona has been ballistic for many years for the same reason. If I owned one of those cars here there is ...

Re: Chevrolet Chevelle SS, Late 60's
Very few and far between. We have 2 X 1968 Chevelle 2 doors ex Arizona (no corrosion) in build right now - one is prepped and in primer about to go to the painters, the other stripped pre prep. If a buyer commits early enough he can choose the colour of the body and the interior. Inbox/email me if y...

Re: 69 Mustang Mach 1
The irony here is that both Leon my partner and I are both Chevy guys if you scratched the surface really hard but have dealt mostly with Mustangs, both new and historic and Ford F150's. In that confused state, the odd Mopar passing through is hardly noticed ( although we have a Dyncorn Challenger b...
