I have seen that more than you would believe! There are two things that break a ring land like that, and the main culprit is too little ring endgap. Hypereutectic pistons need larger than stock ring endgaps,and most rookie enginebuilders don't know this,so the ringends butt together at operating te...

MORNING. I HAVE JUST STRIPPED A FORD 347 STROKER THAT I AM PLANNING TO REBUILD AND FIT INTO MY E30 BMW.AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICS THE PISTONS HAVE BROKEN JUST ABOVE THE TOP RING GROOVE.THESE ARE KEITH BLACK HYPEREUTECTIC PISTONS AND I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT I HAVE TO RUN A FORGED PISTON WITH THIS COMBO...

Thanks for your comments Colin,this issue has been grating my balls all week now!!!! :evil: You are absolutely correct that these smog blocks are indeed only 020" higher! Problem is that all our local suppliers all sell the same flattop replacement pistons with the same compression height of 1.585"...

Just started putting bg0572's little 302W together and found the pistons were down about 060" from the top off the deck! 8O Initially I though wrong pistons,but no,everything in order,and Ford only made one length rod as well,so I had to do some research! Did this car have a brown roof before? I was thinking that perhaps it did, I remember seeing a yellow Granada Coupe like this racing at Killarney in the past. Car looks really good.
