Re: CHEV 3800 GT

Hi Sixpack - In answer to your Q ... no we never did use the cross ram manifold. Whilst considered at the time, there were three things which mitigated against its use and it never was considered seriously. Firstly availability... production of the part had ceased around 1970 and there were insuffic...

Re: The Four Cylinder Chevy

Hi Guys, Johann, The 292 engines were made in both the USA and Mexico. If my memory serves me right it was Mexican production only from the early 80's to 1984. Sounds like you have located one so hang on to it, the crank is worth lots of torque & can drop into a standard 230/250 block... but check t...

The Four Cylinder Chevy

The L4 Chevy Again probably a good idea to have a look at the history of these engines and how they got to SA. During the 60’s our country was a fully fledged 1st world operation and viewed as such by international business. Development in all things was largely keeping pace with Europe and the USA ...

Re: CHEV 3800 GT

John, the L6 302 is a great package and produced huge mid range torque, great for a Chevelle street car restoration as well, also cheap as chips to build one. You only need A/market rods to go with the bigger big end journals and a good set of forged pistons, niether of which are very pricey. I gaur...

Re: CHEV 3800 GT

Firstly guys well spotted.. been moving around too much, the return of Bob Price was to get Delta going and just a small measure of the man is to take a look at the company sales graph for the 18mths after Delta started. Mind boggling to think that they had no new product but things started to happe...

Re: CHEV 3800 GT

I do not dwell on the fuel crisis of 1973. My view was that yes it had an impact, but things would return in time and whether we liked it or not, both old rivalries and market forces would return to normal. Whoever did not over-react and came out punching once the dust had cleared, would have a good...

Re: CHEV 3800 GT

The thing with all projects I guess, is that you have to deal with the fact that something comes along and bites you in the butt occasionally…. and that’s called life. John Lennon described it best when he said… "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans"…. and life was on a r...

Re: CHEV 3800 GT

Hey Johan, I must have taken over your old desk! Going to be away for a couple of days so need to get this one out and I'll try to get some more done over the week end: Well, again the magic of Bob Price shone through. Not being the sort of bloke that would let the opinions of people who could not c...

Re: CHEV 3800 GT

Hi Johann you bring up an interesting point. That blue fastback was the car they used to make the tooling for the Ranger front end using the modified Vauxhall grill you mentioned. The styling guys then bolting the first off-tool parts to a Rekord to make the first Ranger I spoke of in posts. Also so...
