Re: Upcoming Project - Before Pics
Hi Alida, Many thanks for those links. My mind is 100% back onto my rebuild, so I'll only read the links early next week. I have a lot of reading tomorrow just to refresh my memory on specific things I'd noted. I think you should decide which class will suit you best, and post that, and post the wei...

Re: How to rebuild a V8 - D.I.Y.
The rebuild officially started this afternoon. Finally! :D The first job was cleaning the block, every oil channel, every angle, with a compressor and petrol, followed by just compressed air. Maybe an overkill, but I did it three times. I was going to clean the crank as well, but as John pointed out...

Re: How to rebuild a V8 - D.I.Y.
Hey, don't let your Dad put you off !! Reading chapter by chapter, as many times as is required, is a good structure for your learning, so already you're on the right track. I read a lot before Christmas in preparation for the build, but it seems so long ago that I'm going to read again tomorr...

Villain, did you ever find the 351 marking on the crank ?
If not here's a pic, and it's better quality than the one above !

Re: How to rebuild a V8 - D.I.Y.
Hi Villain,
On page 15 you posted a pic of your oil return hole under the intake area.
I've seen worse and I've seen better, but here's a pic of mine for comparison.
Apologies for the crap quality.

Re: How to rebuild a V8 - D.I.Y.
Hello again CBB, I meant to say earlier that I am surprised at how many people around the country suggest 20w50 for our engines. Would I be right in thinking it is because of the API of SG ? I'm looking forward to your comments on my prolongued enquiry, whether critical or supportive, especially as ...

Re: Capri Perana gets a tarting up!
Howzit Paul, The disagreement about the exhausts is amusing, but both sides are correct in their thinking ! :) The car in the pic looks awesome and I particularly like the V8 pipes saying hello at the back. :) I had pipes fitted last year, with similar positioning to the ones in the pic, and yes, I ...

Re: How to rebuild a V8 - D.I.Y.
Good afternoon CBB, Once again you have taken the time to write an informative, easy to follow, post, and once again I say thank you sincerely. :D My aplogies if I keep dragging this subject out, as I did in the 'What motor oil' thread, but until I am convinced of something, I cannot relax. I starte...

Re: Upcoming Project - Before Pics
Hi Alida, I think by now you are smiling as it certainly looks like you're on the right track, finally. :D I'm sorry to hear that you were seriously bullsh$tted about your engine (283). Is Mr Johan the Mechanic officially fired yet ? (And thank you for the history, very informative.) That's b...

Re: Upcoming Project - Before Pics
Hi Alida, Get rid of Johan ! End of. Congratulations on obtaining the gearbox. That was quick ! :D I have often heard of the 350, but I don't ever recall hearing the 283 mentioned, so my first thought is, spares availability and prices. Phone The V8 Shoppe in Alberton and have a chat ! Stroki...
