Re: New member 1972 Ranchero 302 V8

I haven't seen the decode info for the Ranchero's. It is so sad, I know somebody out there has the old parts fiches for these cars, and I wish they would share it with fellow enthusiasts. But I'll shed a bit of light, based on known decode info of other SA-assembled Fords of the period. 1.) S&A (Sou...

Re: Ford Escort Mk2-2-door 1600 Sport tag interpretation

Hi Simsy V = 1979 M = November Engine D = 1600cc 63kW Trans N = Floor shift 4 speed Manual Axle blank Trim OL 0 = Single color interior trim, L = I don’t have a “L” reference for 1979, or any other year Paint OA 0 = Monotone, A = Raven Black (non-metallic) 8 years ago I posted the South African Esco...

Re: K on Ford Granada vin plate

I don’t have the decode info for Granada’s, but a calculated guess at decoding the 1974 data plate as follows: Trim codes P = A character in this position indicate a Vinyl Roof, P decode to "Grey" 0 = Monotone K = "Choclate" interior Paint Code blank = This position indicates metallic paint or not, ...

Re: Granada VIN plate

I don’t have the decode info for Granada’s, but a calculated guess at decoding the data plate as follows: E = Source ~ Ford of Germany S = Assembly ~ South Africa GC = Granada Coupe N = Year of Assembly ~ 1973 D = Month of Assembly ~ November 81460 = Serial Number 179285 = Sido number M = Engine ~ 3...

Re: Mk1 Ford Granada Chassis Number

I can’t be certain, as I don’t have the decode info for Granada’s, but an educated guess at decoding the data plate as follows: O = Source ~ The “O” is odd, could be correct or perhaps mis-stamped from the factory, but it is usually “C” for Ford of Britain, or "E" for Ford of Germany X = Assembly ~ ...

Re: British Leyland Cape Town

Thanks for sharing Shock Diamond. Did you stay in the automotive industry after those years?
To which operator was the Guy "Victory J Trambusses sold, do you know?
Interesting about the Australian Leyland P76 evaluation, know why it was dismissed? The fuel crisis perhaps?

Re: Inverted Engine

Can't comment on the Ford Flathead, but in the case of this motorcycle, my guess would be to improve cooling. You would notice that it is aircooled, inverting the engine would definitely cause "regular" sump to become a dry sump, eliminating frictional losses from the crankshaft, although I don;t kn...

Re: GRIZZ, CRAIG, DENNIS’ 2018 USA Road Trip

Hi Grizz I'll sure be following your endeavors, was just wondering what you were up to recently when that Kommando came up for sale again, and still keeping an eye out for SAP plates, not that I get many chances to do so. Meeting up with the Fast & Loud guys previously surely must have been a high, ...
