My Cortina Restoration has begun!
My Cortina Restoration has begun!
Hi all,
Started with my Cortina this weekend on the body, Started stripping off panels and should start with the sanding this weekend.
One question is how do you remove the chrome strips on the doors and on the roof(see pic)
I will post my progress in this tread!
Thanks

Hi Big6.
Nice car!
The strip clips off from the top. Be careful though as you don't want to put too much force as it will break.
Good luck with the build and hope to see some pic.
We are also in the process of rebuilding a Mk3 3000GT.

Re: My Cortina Restoration has begun!
Can I remove the top lip on the roof without having the roof blow off while driving?
I know its the roof joint but would I be able to remove it and just weld the joint together?
Help please!
Thanks

Re: My Cortina Restoration has begun!
Hi Bigsix,
It certainly can be done. It was quite a popular mod for the old gutter type cars but I don't know the implications of not having the water chaneled away from the door rubbers.
What I mean to say is weather the door seals need to be modded also.
As for the cosmetics, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I would suggest trying to find some pics of cars modded this way to see if you will like it or not. Once the cut is done it won't be easy to reverse it.
Cheers

Thanks Paul!
I was thinking about the water implications running straight into the door instead off on this channel.
Reason for my enquiry is that I removed the one chrome strip and i damaged it a bit, will see if I can get it back into shape or I might just leave it off.
