Oom Johann, I'm going to challenge you on this. The only Opel CIH engine in 2.5L capacity, was a 6 cylinder.Johann66 wrote: ↑Wed 14 Jun 2017, 22:38Yes! The largest Opel CIH 4-cyl found in this series of Rekord/Commodore was a 1900cc.
If the car in the ad indeed has the 2.5L CIH 6-cyl, it would be a Rekord "Six" and a rare find.
But I believe the Rekord "Six" only came in automatic.
Re: Opel Rekord coupe
The Rekord Coupe came with the 2,5 4cylinder engine, and the sedan came with the 2,1 4cylinder.
I don't think we got the 1900 engine in SA.

Re: Opel Rekord coupe
I know GMSA did things different than overseas, but what are the origins of this engine then, is it unique to SA? Is it a Opel CIH engine?
Not much info is commonly available on what changes were made to South African manufactured Opel's.
CAR Magazine had a road test of a Opel Rekord 2.5 Sprint coupe in the November 1970 issue.

I have that test somewhere, I was actually thinking of the Sprint when I typed my previous reply.IndianaJones wrote: ↑Thu 15 Jun 2017, 08:40I know GMSA did things different than overseas, but what are the origins of this engine then, is it unique to SA? Is it a Opel CIH engine?

Re: Opel Rekord coupe
Mark is correct as we did not use the CIH engine! We used the McKinnon (Canada) engine. We used the CIH engine in the Opel"E" body.ZA Perana wrote: ↑Thu 15 Jun 2017, 10:29I have that test somewhere, I was actually thinking of the Sprint when I typed my previous reply.IndianaJones wrote: ↑Thu 15 Jun 2017, 08:40I know GMSA did things different than overseas, but what are the origins of this engine then, is it unique to SA? In the "D" body we used the 2.5, 3.8 and 4.1 chev(Opel) Mckinnon engines.
The Opel Sprint came with the L6 CIH 2.6? motor. Very few built here!

Re: Opel Rekord coupe
Just to complete the McKinnon saga: The "B" body 1965 to 66 Started off with the 2.1 McKinnon! GMSA Played with some variations with the "Powerglide Auto, 3 and 4 speed manual boxes, Rear diff ratios from disastrous 3.7 to a 3.45 that became standard in the Ranger! From 130 to the 153 Cub inch all used the same block!! My "B"body wheelspins with the 3.7 diff!Johann66 wrote: ↑Thu 15 Jun 2017, 21:53Mark is correct as we did not use the CIH engine!
